by gseth on 6th August, 2011 in Apple

Skype has been finally released for the iPad 2 and iPad. You can now make video calls over the 3G network and are no longer restricted to use Facetime via WiFi. Some of the features are:

  • Two Way Video Calling: Ability to make video calls over 3G network as well as WiFi. Skype also uses the iPad 2's dual camera and gives you the ability to turn off the camera or switch to the back or front facing camera.
  • SMS texting: Easy and simple way of texting to any contact in your contact list or on any number via the dial pad.
  • Easy Navigation: The UI is very wasy and intuiative. You can find your conversation history and search very easily.
  • New Contacts Layout: The contacts are shown in a grid and can be customised into groups. Contacts now have a large avatar view making it easier to find them.
  • Instant Messaging: Ability to instant message even during a video call.

Skype for iPad Requirements:

iOS version 4.0 or later required. iPad 1st Generation cannot send video, but can receive video.
